Last month I was back in Hebei—Tower C 603, MCC World Grand Plaza, No.66, XiangTai Road, Shijiazhuang—walking a shop floor where the first crusher liner casts of the week were cooling. To be honest, what struck me wasn’t the size (still massive), but how the industry has doubled down on lamination crushing. The material layer protects the rolling wall; even on modern high-efficiency cones that idle with a gap, once you’re in steady-state, that layer becomes armor. Many customers say that’s the difference between “acceptable” and “profitable.”
Materials: Mn13Cr2, Mn18Cr2, Mn20Cr; optional TiC-reinforced zones for impact-prone areas. Methods: no-bake sand casting or lost-foam (depending on cavity), followed by solution heat treatment and water toughening. Machining and trial fit come next. Testing: spectrometer chemistry check, UT/MT for internal soundness, hardness mapping (≈ HB 190–230 after treatment), and abrasion screening per ASTM G65 (lab proxy—real-world use may vary). Standards referenced in QA include ASTM A128/A128M for austenitic manganese castings.
| Parameter | Spec (≈, typical) |
|---|---|
| Material options | Mn13Cr2 / Mn18Cr2 / Mn20Cr; optional TiC inserts |
| Hardness (as cast, aged) | HB 190–230 after solution + water toughening |
| Compatible cones | HP300/400/500, GP series, Symons, CH/CS series (match by profile) |
| Profile types | Coarse, Medium, Fine, “lamination” multi-layer |
| Service life window | ≈10,000–35,000 t per set (feed, CSS, and rock affect it) |
| QA standards | ASTM A128/A128M, ASTM G65, ISO 9001 QMS |
Applications: hard granite, basalt, river gravel, copper/iron ore, and recycled concrete. Operators targeting cubical product in asphalt mixes lean on lamination. Keep a consistent choke feed; watch CSS drift; and don’t ignore tramp relief settings—surprisingly, an over-eager relief valve can halve a crusher liner’s life.
| Vendor | Material set | Heat treat | Lead time | Certs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mining ZY (Hebei, China) | Mn13–Mn20 + optional TiC | Solution + water toughening | ≈3–5 weeks | ISO 9001 (on request) |
| Vendor A | Mn18Cr2 focus | Oil quench | ≈6–8 weeks | ISO 9001 |
| Vendor B | Mn20Cr premium | Water toughening | ≈4–6 weeks | ISO 9001/14001 |
Switched from Mn13 to Mn18Cr2 with a lamination profile and added TiC in the upper third. CSS held at 14 mm, feed improved (less fines). Result over 3 months: +27% tonnage per crusher liner set; changeouts dropped from 12 to 9 per quarter. Operator feedback: “Less scalloping, stabler amperage.”
