Operating conditions such as the engine’s temperature, position, size, pressure and shaft speed largely determine which individual oil seal composition is most suitable for every individual application.
The interaction of the integrated seals with the shaft follows the dynamics of the PTFE seals. Often an additional dust seal (rubber lip or felt strip) provides an effective barrier against contaminating particles.

2. Oil seal structure and functions
The most common oil seals are the ERIKS types R, RST, M and MST, which correspond respectively to types A, AS, B and BS according to DIN 3760/ISO 6194.
After the oil seal is positioned in the groove, apply even pressure to the oil seal using a seal driver or a similar tool. This will help to seat the oil seal firmly in the groove and prevent it from moving during use. Make sure to apply the pressure evenly and gently, as applying too much force can damage the oil seal or cause it to deform.

If you are looking for the highest temperature resistant oil seals, Perfluoelastomer can go up to 600°F. If you are more concerned for low temperature, Chloroprene can go all the way down to 40°F, which is why it is used most commonly for refrigeration. And if FDA applications or medical devices are your primary concern, Butyl , the all petroleum compound, will be your best choice. As you can see, when choosing the right material to work with, you must analyze several other key components to help choose the right one.
Aluminum alloys and resin (materials with a large difference between the linear expansion coefficients) demand sufficient consideration (as there is a risk of failure due to the increased clearance with the oil seal at high temperatures).
