Figure 2.11. Rubber enclosed metal seal
- 1. Plumbing Systems Thick rubber gaskets are commonly used in plumbing systems to prevent leaks and ensure a tight seal between pipes and fittings.
Functions
- Step 4 Check and adjust the gap
changing spark plugs. For more severe oil-seal service at temperatures of 160°C (320°F) or higher for extended periods, more resistant fluoroelastomer compositions are required for long service life. High-fluorine VDF/PMVE/TFE elastomers, along with TFE/olefin FEPM elastomers, are much less susceptible to attack by oil additives. TFE/P fluoroelastomers have the requisite chemical resistance, but have low fluorine content, leading to relatively high swell and to soft vulcanizates with lower wear resistance than desired.
- The selection of the right oil seal is paramount
- Over time, engine oil seals can become worn or damaged due to normal wear and tear or exposure to extreme temperatures and chemicals. When this happens, they may need to be replaced to prevent further damage to the engine. It is recommended to have the oil seal checked and replaced at regular intervals, typically every 30,000 to 100,000 miles, depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
