- PTFE, or Polytetrafluoroethylene, is a highly versatile synthetic polymer renowned for its exceptional chemical resistance, low friction coefficient, and high-temperature stability. It finds extensive application in various industries, particularly in the manufacturing of oil seals. An oil seal, fundamentally, is a mechanical device designed to prevent the leakage of oil while allowing the rotation or linear movement of shafts and axles. The integration of PTFE into oil seals brings about a myriad of advantages.
- One of the key benefits of skeleton oil sealing is its ability to prevent costly downtime and repairs caused by oil leaks
skeleton oil sealing. By creating an effective seal between moving parts, these seals help maintain proper lubrication and reduce friction, which can extend the lifespan of critical components such as bearings and gears. Additionally, by preventing oil from escaping into the environment, skeleton oil sealing helps reduce waste and minimize the potential for pollution.
Size #: Corresponds to sizes found on our Oil Seal Size Chart. The interactive chart will display matching sizes based on the dimensions input for Shaft, Bore, and Width. The Oil Seal Size # is hyperlinked to our online store, which will display all sizes matching the selection.
O.D. (outside diameter) surface - One of the main reasons for oil valve cover gasket failure is wear and tear due to the high temperatures and pressures inside the engine. Over time, the gasket can become brittle and cracked, allowing oil to seep out. This can lead to a loss of oil, which can in turn lead to engine damage and poor performance.
Generally, an oil seal is made up of an outer circular metal part and a bonded inner flexible material (often nitrile rubber) that does the actual sealing.

What material are oil seals made from?
Usually, these oil seals are used to seal lubricating oil or grease and contain it within the application, so that moving parts such as bearings are continually supplied with enough lubrication. However, such seals are also used for sealing other liquids, gases, and solids, such as powders or granules.

4. SHAFT SPEED: As different shafts move at different speeds you need to consider the runout, the housing bore, and oil type being sealed. Ensure you select a seal that will not suffer from abrasions or spiralling.
